Lesson Description

This guitar lesson has  8 chapters.  The Performance shows you what we want to have you learn in the lesson. The Overview tells you what you need to know to speak intelligently about the song in social situations, plus the chords you need to know. In the Intro you get a very detailed demonstration and explanation of the piano part that Elvis opened the song with. This is excellent training for learning how to play arpeggios. The Verse/Chorus chapter introduces an “all down” Strum Pattern that is very easy to play, but that needs to be done right. Next comes the Bridge chapter, where you get exposed to a gorgeous chord progression that will help you with ear training. In the Tag/Ending chapter, you'll learn how to bring the song to a close the way Elvis did. The Slow Practice gives you the chance to put it all together. In the Bonus Chapter David introduces you to “broken chords,” or arpeggios, that come straight from the piano part. David runs you through the whole song several times while you pretend that you’re the piano player.

Song Information

Can't Help Falling in Love

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Can't Help Falling in Love," by George Weiss, Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, is a pop song based on "Plaisir d'amour" by Jean Paul Egide Martini. It was rewritten for the 1961 film Blue Hawaii, starring Elvis Presley.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley’s version of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” is still the most famous.  It was released in 1961 by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 47-7968, was #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1961, atop the Easy Listening chart of the new Billboard magazine for six weeks in 1961, #4 on the Cash Box magazine Best-Selling Records list in January of 1962, and #394 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

In his 1968 NBC-TV special, Presley gave a new live treatment to the song, both in the sit-down and stand-up segments of the show.  By July 1969 it was used to close nearly all of his live concerts, including the last one in late June 1977 at the old Indianapolis Market Square Arena.  Presley’s version was put on the music game Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol.
