Over the past weeks, there have been some major rock anniversaries (both happy and sad), but today…not so much. In the absence of anything especially note-worthy, we’d like to teach you to create your own notes! Hammer-ons and pull-offs are simple techniques that allow you to get two notes from just one pluck of the string. To hear how this sounds and see how it’s done, check out the hammer-on lesson in our Technique Library.
As a bonus, we’re sending you a video about Pete Seeger, a living folk legend who coined the terms “hammer-on” and “pull-off.” As you’ll see, Pete also did lots of other things and wrote some of the best folk songs of last century, including “If I Had a Hammer” (aka the Hammer Song), “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” and “Turn, Turn, Turn.”
Thanks, Pete, for the inspiration and the cool terms!
